Local Gastronomy

We, Cretans, have a predilection for anything grown locally, be it fruit, vegetables, meat or fish. The amount of sun and the Cretan soil give crop a full, rich taste that makes too much seasoning superfluous. Besides olive oil and lemon juice, some salt, pepper and oregano will usually do.

In general, Cretan cuisine is not regarded as high gastronomy. It tends to be more on the peasant side, with many one-dish or oven-cooked meals, making it a rather plain, basic but honest cuisine. And there exactly lies its charm: in its splendid taste, due to the fresh ingredients that are season bound and grown outside, mainly on the island itself!

We serve some exemplary dishes at our hotels, where our cook prepares everything with fresh ingredients and vegetables that are organically grown in our own garden.
